I feel like I now live with nature. When I open my blinds in the morning I’m excited by what I’ll see. I look for rabbits hopping about at the end of the garden. I look into the hills to see what weather is waiting there. I can hear birds, lots of them. And I can’t believe my luck. I still feel like someone is going to knock on the door and ask for the keys back. My new home is in the country. And I’m loving it.
This is the view of my garden from the back steps. I sit here and have my first coffee of the day when I’m not at work.
I’ve never had so much sky around me.
I’m more aware of the light than I ever have been, its subtle changes and how it moves across the trees and hills.
There are different birds here. No magpies or sparrows. I see colourful little finches, huge black crows. Two woodpeckers live in a tree nearby and visit our bird feeder.
So does Baby P. Whilst filling it up we heard her little voice behind us,‘Nice’,as she ate one off the ground. She likes peanuts and can often be found poking her little fingers in the holes to tease one out.
The weather is magnified. I’m starting to recognise when it’s about to change, you can see it coming. I’m looking forward to witnessing the changing seasons ahead.
I probably do need to wise up a bit when it comes to the animals. I’m still all ‘Oooh, look,it’s a rabbit.’ when proper country folk step over them or call them vermin rather than naming them. Apparently the previous home owner was once spotted throwing a spear at Thumper and his mates,so enraged was he at them eating his plants.
Last week when we were walking back home I spotted a tiny dead baby bird lying at the side of the track,bug-eyed,scrawny,bald and lying on its back. Dilemma. Do I step over it and distract the four small people following behind,or face up to it? Naturally, they spotted it. I explained in my best newsreader voice that it must have fallen out of the nest, but it was ‘natures way’ and it was peaceful now.
We stood,looking down. Contemplating. Somber.
Then the bloody thing moved. In one spontaneous move, shocked,we all ran, fleeing the scene.
That aside, nature rocks and I feel like one lucky lady.
This was written as part of Tara’s Gallery, something I’ve never taken part in before but have followed since she started it up. The fact that there was a prize of chocolate for the best entry this week had nothing to do with me entering.

and very beautiful your new home is too!! Enjoy every moment. X
I will I will, don’t you worry about that! And it’s so much nicer when there are our children running about playing nicely together isn’t it?!
I see lovely mountains in the distance.
Yeah,I think they look like mountains too but I am assured by people wiser than me that they’re just hills. The cheek! As a born and raised city girl I am utterly in awe of them none the less.
hey fellow newbie. Thought I’d check your pics out as I too am new to The Gallery and it’s nice to get comments isn’t it!? You must live somewhere amazing with those mountains in the distance…
Oh I love comments, you could get quite addicted couldn’t you. That,or paranoid ! Thanks for popping by
Wow what a lovely view from your garden –where do you live?
In the Scottish Borders,Innerleithen, about 45 mins from Edinburgh which is where I’m from. Just learning to be the country girl !
Wow,what a fantastic view to have! You’re very lucky!
Oh I really really know I am and hoping that feeling doesn’t wear off any time soon. Almost makes the scary big mortgage payments worth it !
You have mountains in your view *sigh* you lucky woman! Enjoy your new home x
Thanks Liz,so far so good. Now,if this sodding rain would just go away….
Great first entry into the Gallery. I’m only on my 4th or 5th so don’t think that we are all old hands at it. Well done, and good luck with the competition.
I forgot about the competition bit ! Just sitting eating a box of Dairy Milk that my boy got me for half price at the local co-op so I won’t be too disappointed when I lose. I’ve got very common taste when it comes to chocolate
I could wake to a view like that every day! -*sigh*
Now I feel like inviting everyone round and having a big open house !! Hope you’re all settling into your new home –doesn’t time fly when there are boxes to unpack?..
What a view!! Jen
Could be a lot worse that much is true. Even watching the residents of the old folks home wander round their garden, which is at the bottom of ours,is quite relaxing. I love it when they wave up at the girls running round the garden,it must be nice to hear kids laughter. Thanks for popping over
Oh I’m the same! We moved the country about 18 months ago and i still can’t believe this is where we live (we were in london for 20 years). My children have become very matter of fact about animals dying, which I suppose is good in the long run.
x
Yeah, you’re right,it’s way better than crying at ‘Bambi’isn’t it?
Hi –came to visit you after your comment on my site! Wow –what a view! Gorgeous. Me &my Gary (lol!) were watching Escape to the Country this morning saying that’s what we want to do in a few years…! Heaven…
I love that programme! But I much preferred the posh Catherine woman that used to do it.
I can highly recommend moving out of town so far although I’m sure when I’m snowed in for months on end I may be less positive and more ‘The Shining’….
You live in a beautiful place!
And you appreciate it,which is just as important.
Thanks for stopping by my blog, and for the lovely comment, much appreciated.
Enjoyed reading your blog. Enjoy your new life in the country.
Wow,now that is a view to aspire to! Truly beautiful!
Oh my god, that’s amazing! What an incredible view you have. Envy is an evil emotion but I’m feeling it!
